The tree

It all stared like this. I was walking past it. All of a sudden I tripped up and fell face first on the ground. Something behind me sneered. Frightened, I sprinted home. I didn't dare to tell anyone of my fear so from that day it was a secret.

Guy Fawkes by Jessika

It was 1605.  Guy Fawkes was trying to blow up the House of Lords (Robert Catsbey planned that idea).  But King James the first thought something was going on with Guy Fawkes and his little gang (he was sent a letter).

Because of that letter, he thought that he would send him men out and search for the gun powder plots, and the gun powder (36 barrels of gun powder).

Guy Fawkes was planning with Robert Catesby about blowing up everybody in the country, but then the king sent his men out to find Guy Fawkes and Robert Catesby, "MEN!  I am sending you to go and find Guy Fawkes and Robert Catesby."  The King yelled to his men.

So they went searching and found them and showed both guilty men to the King.

They tied Guy Fawkes up and burned him and Robert was killed.

The End

The Sinister Plot by Josh and Daniel

"Mwahahahahaha!" laughed Robert Catsby.  "Our plan should be to blow up the house of lords"  So Roberts gang started making their sinister plot.  "Good plan!" shouted Guy Fawkes.  The date was March the 6th.  They would have to take 9 months to complete the plot.

So they got the materials such as 800kgs of gun powder.  Guy Fawkes was the man of explosives.

Every day Guy Fawkes put gun powder in the cellar under the House of Lords.  It took a long, long time buy Guy Fawkes did it.  "Hooray, hooray!" Roberts gang shouted.

By Finn

Once there was a boy.  He had a friend called Jake, but his name was Mik.

They went into the wood and they found a man-kind-of-made cave.  When they went inside the door slammed behind them. They saw two glowing red eyes, then a werewolf leapt out of the darkness and grabbed Jake.

Mik wanted to help him but he sprinted off as the werewolf teared Jake apart in a bloody mess.

As Mik ran, he spotted a spooky, mysterious house.  So he thought “At least it will be a good place to stay warm.”  So he went to it and trotted inside.  It was dark and messy.

He walked about, exploring the place as he heard screams and scoffs (as though someone was eating someone else) that echoed in his ears.

“Heeeeeelp me!” it shouted.

He jumped into the room prepared to rescue anybody there, but all he saw was darkness and then a flash of a wing was revealed in the light and there in front of him he saw blood thirsty vampire with saliva leaking from his lips.

The last thing he saw was a flash of blackness and the crunching feeling of teeth cutting his throat.  And peeking out of his eye he saw the vampire who said “Gooda night” as he walked out of the room laughing hysterically.

The girl that painted the future

Long long long ago sat an ordinary girl in a ordinary chair. Now that girl…Lets stop calling her girl I know her name so I'll use it.Lucy lived in a musty old house her roof was grey her windows
black and her house was the most awfulest colour I had ever seen. I can't dear to say it , ok I'll say it, it was …. ok few deep breath br br br bro brown, yuck.

Now Lucy was feeling glum her chin crinkled up and her lips were saying down like baggy pants.
"Oh why oh why do I live in this gloomy glum place need to invent paint. Oh poor me Oh poor me
this is so not fair"
But there was only one problem there was no colour in the whole entire universe Lucy's heart sank.
Her entire town grey town was all grey every ones house was like hers. Grey black and a torturous brown. So she decided to go to sleep in her hard black bed.

The next morning at one o'clock Lucy woke up and she sprang out of bed and ran to the living room.
She clenched onto the remote and pressed a silver button, and ping the tv turned on
then Lucy jumped, "Holy molly

Now because of this screaming her neighbours woke up. However  it wasn't her fault she screamed there  was colours, colours on the screen. All of a sudden Lucy's mouth shut tight listening to the tv box as it said "In grey town somewhere there is a rainbow" Lucy screamed again "wow, this day is awesome"

1 hour later, Lucy was packing her bag ready for the long journey.

She laid there,  her chocolate brown eyes stared into the diamond blue sky.  Madelyn smiled at the sun and the sun smiled back in a secret way only she could understand.

Happy tears rushed down her face because her dad was coming home that day and she had never felt so happy. Madelyn quickly ran inside to set the table,  she put the cookies on the plate which she had made for her dad and she was proud of them.  However there was no beer on the table for him so she grabbed some beer from the fridge. Then a car drove up the drive way.It was dad.

Finn and his family in the mud run

In the weekend me,Callum, mum, and dad were going to the mud run. There was a long twirly and bumpy ride through the country side. I saw a million houses on every block.

Then we stopped.  I jumped into my running clothes, got out of the car, got our signs on and got a lolly packet, and those lollies smelled delicious.

We then went to the starting line, it seemed like h-o-u-r-s of listening to someone telling us the rules and then TOOOOT! we all ran off!  We ran and ran and ran and RAN.  At the first part it was a foot aching upwards run, luckily an easy run straight and then a super slidy finish.

And to tell you something impressive - it was 27 KILOMETRES to the final part.

I'm covered in mud that I felt on my legs.  Just as I vomited it was agh…AWESOME!

Here are some words to explain it:
Awesome, extraordinary, superb, fantastic, mind-blowing, incredible, unbelievable, super, cool and finally…best…thing…EVER!

A day before fathers day me and my Dad went to the south of the   Hunua to go trail building. We arrived at 10:00 to start at the top of the track.

Arrown, Bryan, Dad, Ed and me started to cut trees. down to make way for the new bike race.As sone as we get to the second part of the track we had to use the chain saw again. Chopping down more bamboo trees.

Gosh this mite be to long for my famished stomach I'll better get a drink. I stay in the car for the rest of time till the rest are ready to go to the next part.

Water Tension

Room 17 have been partaking in more spectacular science.  Stay tuned for instructions on how to make a paper clip float on water, and a brief report on what surface tension IS.

Rangoli Art

As we were studying diversity and geometry we decided to combine the two.  Looking at Rangoli art from Indian culture we noticed most of them were symmetrical (the same on at least two sides).

Using a template that we created ourselves by folding paper into quarters and then cutting out, we used bright pastels to complete our own pattern onto black paper.

Those Rangoli patterns have been backed onto MORE bright colour that we chose, and added to our walls - come in and see them!

Fish Fighting

I see a Rarotongan woman rushing through the water and looking for fish.  She is thinking about getting fish, it is her duty.  Even when a shark attacks her!

She dodges the shark by putting her hand on it's neck and back and back flipping behind the shark.  Her heart pounds as fast as a car engine as it's razor sharp gills cut her hand, but she keeps going.

She grabs a bunch of fish, including me, and she rushes to the surface.

I'm slowly cooked for the good of others.

Acting Safely

At Reremoana we have been looking at the ABCD's of behaving for best learning.  The first was, of course, A - Act Safely.  Here are some of the ideas we came up with:

Using drama, we portrayed these qualities.  We captured our facial expressions and body language using imotion (frame by frame).

Over the last few weeks we have been looking at the faces, vertices, edges and nets of geometric shapes.

After designing our own geometric 'people' using polygons and plane shapes we then looked at everyday shapes.  Maths really is EVERYWHERE!

A cube with 6 faces.
Understanding edges and vertices - this cube has 8 vertices and 12 edges.

This rectangular prism (also known as a nut bar carton) has 6 faces - like a cube.

This cylinder has 2 edges and 0 vertices.

The Three Bears

In the story of the three bears Goldilocks broke into their house. It was very wrong to do that. That's why I'm on the bears side.

Firstly porridge is the bears favorite food. It was wrong of goldilocks  to eat all of baby bears. Plus it wasn't even hers to eat.

Secondly, would you like it if I slept in your bed I now I wouldn't like it.Why was she even sleeping in there beds any way?

Finally, that chair was all baby bear had of his father's childhood it was pretty special to him. It was wrong of Goldilocks to brake it.

I believe the bears now do you believe them to?

By Keegan

Thursday, 12 June 2014

I agree with the bears because goldilocks went in the house, she ate the porridge and broke baby
bear's chair.

Firstly goldilocks shouldn't of went in the house because no one was there and she could stayed
in the shelter till the bears come back.

Secondly, she ate the porridge she really shouldn't have tested any of them or she could of
eaten some thing else or eaten nothing.

Finally she broke baby bears chair.she shouldn't

Room 17 Swimming day Thursday 29th May 2014

 By Jessika

Today at swimming we learnt about how to be safe when drowning and screaming out help!

Room 17 was told to go over to a side and sit down.
We all were listening to Lisa (the instructor) while another instructor put life jackets, boards and noodles behind everybody. Then the person who was sitting on our left was our buddy for doing a buddy activity.  First the people sitting down were the people that were going to pretend to drown and the people on the side were saving the people that was pretending to drown with the board
The person that was standing up throw the board at the person that was pretending to drown and that person that pretend to drown kicked on there backs to the life saver and the life saver pulled me out of the water.

Second :

Everybody in Room 17 had a noodle behind us.
We all had the same buddy again.Well heres how it
goes: The same thing but they have to lie on your tummy and pull out the noodle and drag the person that was pretending to drown and pull them up and out of the water which was preety fun I wish I could do that again!

Room 17 had to line up in a line down on the side of the pool and turn around and sit down facing the wall. We had to hold the person next to your arm like a cowboy dose when he’s skipping with his girlfriend. And then a man named Peter tipped Jacob down and we all fell in until it got to Marc the DOMINOS STOPPED! because Daniel wasent holding on to Marc properly and then Peter pushed Daniel down and then it all started again untill it got up to Kendyl ( oh yea we had life jakest on whiel doing the dominos)WE are the dominos.

Room 17 was allowed to swim in our life jakets into a circel
in the pool in the middle and then we floted on our backs and had our knees up by our chest and Lisa and Peter span
us around and Lisa and Peter splashed us with water beceuse it was a thundrey day then it was a sunny day untill
it was a rainy day that they were pretending to do all of that stuff

We all had fun though really fun
Room 17 had a great day!.
And a big thank you to the
parents that helped that day

Thank you

The Big Bad Wolf vs The Dad - court is in session.

Qho do you think should go to jail? I think Dad because he isn't a loud to kill animals. he doesn't have
a shooting licence, he could have told his daughter to go home or gone with her.He could have taken the basket himself.

First of all Dad should of had a hunting licence for example he isn't allowed to kill animals and he
was suppose to use the axe for chopping down trees.

Second of all he should have looked after he's child for example he should of said ''go back home''
to his child.

Last of all he should of took the basket himself. For example he should of said ''give me the basket
and go home''.

Science - observing, note taking and hypothesis making

In Room 17 we have been looking at the experimental process and fair variables.

Our first experiment started when we looked at oil and water.  According to Ashley P's observations they "They don't want to combine, even after we shook them they fell away from each other."

We then looked at a tablet which releases the gas carbon dioxide when placed in liquid.  This release of carbon dioxide made the water "explode" and the gas tried to escape by rising to the surface of the liquid.

Using this prior knowledge we hypothesised on what would happen if we were to mix coloured water, oil and a carbon dioxide releasing tablet.

Here are some of those hypotheses:

This is what actually happened:

The berocca tablet began releasing CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) which rose to the surface and took the heavier water with it, through the oil and it created an AMAZING LAVA LAMP effect.

So, oil and water managed to mix and be friends, if only for a short while.

On Friday the 23rd of May it was bike safety. If you wanted to join in you must have closed in shoes, a helmet  and a bike or  scooter. There were  4 different courses  for year 4s and for the seniors
they have a show off course to do - it looked like it was a very hard course for the seniors.
They had to do lots of different things on their bikes with out getting off their bikes to
look like a  show off it sounded very hard to me.

The tui team's 4 courses were biking on the lines, biking with a bean bag on your head and the last one was when you do races and relays.
For myself the year 4's bike and scooter courses were very  fun for me.  I would rate it 9 out of 10.

On Friday 23 of May it was bike day. It was the middle of the afternoon when we started to go to the activity,  but before  we start the teacher Mrs Clark has to check that we have all our stuff like closed in shoes,  a helmet and of course a bike or a scooter.

It was so fun!  The first obstacle course was very tricky - first you have to go round lots of bends. Now up to the next obstacle course, we had to go round the cones dipping in and out. Now up to the third obstacle course - we had to go round and round like a round about. I think the Tui team had a lovely time.

Tui Team Bike Day

On friday the 23rd it was bike safety day. We had to have closed up shoes/helmet/bike or scooter to go. If you did not have any of these you could not go on the course. I did not get to do that much stuff because my mum called me to the office, but I got to do one of them and that was plenty enough for me because  I got to bike home.

Did I mention that there were four courses? Oops sorry I did not tell you! At the start we had to bring the bikes from the scoter/bike rack. Girls went first of course, then boys. After that we went on the concrete or grass with the Tui team where some kereru team girls showed us what to do with the four courses. After the girls explained what to do we went off like the wind! Then I only did one lap when the speaker went for me to go home - boo! I had fun while it lasted.
